I love this conversation with two beautiful writers! Shannon, I’m going to keep pondering that question, “what am I uniquely positioned to offer the world for our collective wholeness and healing?” I love thinking of writing as your activism! And I agree that to say yes to writing (or any creative endeavor) requires saying some hard but good no’s to other things (sorry, PTA).
1) Limitations are allies—yes! I wouldn't have written a book if illness hadn't pushed me to lay aside my medical career and helped me find my truer life calling.
2) "What am I uniquely positioned to offer the world for our collective wholeness and healing?" Wonderful question that I'll be continuing to ponder.
3) "[M]y answer, at least for now, is to empower women to find their voice and trust it." That's not my answer—but I love that it's Shannon's, and having just read all I can read of her book online, I'm eager read the rest!
First of all, God’s timing is so freaking perfect. This post popped up in my notifications this morning, and I read it because of the book title as I identify as a Catholic mystic. I came back to the church in May after walking away for several years. And in that time, God has shown me that he was still using my time away as a way to prepare me for the mission he has for me. Specifically, the idea of self-awareness, knowing yourself, knowing your traits, shadow work, trusting yourself, etc. is a crucial pairing with God awareness to become a mature Christian capable of showing true love to oneself and to others. I’ve never read anything by Teresa of Avila before so as I was running and listening to chapter 1, I kept yelling, “Yes! Yes! God is truly working here!” Suffice it to say, I am excited about the rest of the book. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thanks for sharing this book and conversation with the author. Men need to pay attention these voices and stories. I am listening.
Love this!
Thanks for having me, Stephanie!
I'm a huge fan of Rewilding Motherhood, and I cannot wait to read Shannon's latest book! And her mindset about limitations is super encouraging.
This is good news! I'm excited to check out this book. Thanks for doing the work, Shannon, and thanks for sharing, Stephanie!
